The town centre and beaches are only 10-15 minutes away by minibus. The surrounding countryside is unspoilt and peaceful and ideal for those who enjoy walking and horse riding. Stroll down to the beach for a swim or to enjoy some exciting water sports. Cool off in the pool or relax with a good book on your balcony. Visit the ancient Temple of Apollo, shop in the colourful weekly market or explore the fascinating historical sites dotted around the resort. Enjoy a day trip to the Greek islands of Samos or Patmos, with ferries departing from the harbour, just 5 minutes walk from your door. Altinkum, which means 'Golden Sand' in Turkish, has a series of sandy beaches, which are gently sloping and ideal for families. The town has over 8,000 foreign property owners, mostly British, and a rapidly growing expatriate community. The seafront is lined with restaurants and bars, and in summer there are water sports and leisure activities on the beach, which is ideal for children. Didyma's famous Temple of Apollo is in the town and ancient Greek Miletus and Priene are close by. A 625-berth marina is due for completion in 2009.
Altinkum is a 60-minute drive from Bodrum airport. There is a new public hospital, with larger private hospitals in Bodrum and Kusadasi. Shopping facilities are good with several large supermarkets and a weekly market for fresh produce.
