Didyma's famous Temple of Apollo is in the town and ancient Greek Miletus and Priene are close by. A 625-berth marina is due for completion in 2009.

Altinkum is a 60-minute drive from Bodrum airport. There is a new public hospital, with larger private hospitals in Bodrum and Kusadasi. Shopping facilities are good with several large supermarkets and a weekly market for fresh product.
